Early Childhood Kindy Program

WILSON PRIMARY SCHOOL

Wilson Primary School

At Wilson Primary School, we believe the early years are a time of wonder, growth and discovery. Our Kindergarten and Early Childhood programs provide a nurturing, engaging environment where children feel safe, supported and inspired to learn.

Our Guiding Vision: Belonging, Being and Becoming

  • Belonging – Children thrive when they feel connected to family, community, culture and place. We nurture warm, inclusive relationships so every child feels valued and safe.
  • Being – Childhood is a unique time. We honour the here-and-now of childhood by providing time and space for play, exploration and joyful engagement with learning.
  • Becoming – The early years lay the foundations for future learning and wellbeing. Our program supports each child’s growth—social, emotional, physical and cognitive—as they transition toward formal schooling.

A Balanced, Play-Based and Intentional Approach

Our teaching is play-based and intentional. Educators plan meaningful environments and experiences that engage children in investigation, creation, collaboration and communication, while purposefully extending skills such as problem-solving, early literacy, numeracy, and self-regulation.

  • Child-led play that builds curiosity, confidence and creativity.
  • Intentional learning experiences guided by clear developmental outcomes (identity, wellbeing, learning, communication and contribution to their world).
  • Holistic, integrated approaches that connect language, movement, social skills, and thinking across authentic, everyday contexts.

Outdoor Play Spaces

Our Early Childhood area features a vibrant outdoor learning environment designed for exploration and active play. Children enjoy sandpits, climbing equipment and open spaces that encourage physical development, problem-solving and imaginative play.

Partnering with Families

Families are children’s first teachers. We work in strong partnership with parents and carers—sharing learning goals, listening to family insights, and celebrating progress together.

  • Kindy Parent Coffee Catchups: Held regularly, these informal gatherings give parents the chance to connect with each other and with the school community.
  • Orientation Sessions in Term 4: These sessions help children feel settled and confident for the start of school and provide parents with important information about our programs, routines and expectations.

Early Years Development

In the early years, children develop rapidly across social-emotional, language and communication, physical, and cognitive domains. Through well-designed play and intentional teaching, we foster dispositions for learning (e.g., curiosity, persistence and cooperation), early literacy and numeracy foundations, and a strong sense of identity and wellbeing.

Kindy Attendance Pattern

Our Kindy program runs 2 days one week and 3 days the next, providing consistent opportunities for deep engagement in play, routines and projects while supporting children’s transition to the rhythms of school.
